CCA Congratulates FirstNet for Unanimous Vote to Finalize Award
Washington, DC – March 28, 2017 – Today, the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) Board unanimously voted to authorize FirstNet CEO Mike Poth, or his designee, to finalize an award to build and maintain a nationwide public-safety broadband network (NPSBN). CCA congratulates FirstNet for taking the next step to provide first responders with this service, and competitive carriers look forward to working with FirstNet and the final awardee to ensure consumers in rural areas have access to public safety officials in times of need.
“I congratulate FirstNet on this milestone,” said Steven K. Berry, President & CEO of CCA. “Significant work, starting with the legislative process, went into today’s vote to authorize awarding a contract to build and operate FirstNet. Many CCA members serve extremely hard to reach and rural areas and are ready to ensure public safety officials and consumers that live and travel to these areas can connect during times of emergencies through collaboration with the final awardee. Competitive carriers are committed to their customers’ safety, and we look forward to working with FirstNet to ensure the public safety network is a success.”
