CCA and U.S. Chamber of Commerce Launch 5G Rural Security Engagement Initiative
Washington, DC – October 2, 2019 – Today, Competitive Carriers Association (“CCA”) and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce (the “Chamber”) announced a 5G Rural Security Engagement Initiative (“Rural Engagement Initiative”) to address the significant opportunities as well as challenges that 5G implementation will introduce related to supply chains, connected devices, network security, and market competition with trusted vendors. CCA and the Chamber, informed by input from key stakeholders from industry and United States Government will host a series of meetings beginning this fall, with the initial session to be held in Denver on October 30.
“CCA members care deeply about the security of their networks and protecting their customers, and I am pleased to be working with the Chamber of Commerce on this important initiative,” said CCA President & CEO Steven K. Berry. “With the emergence of 5G and new technologies being introduced each and every day, it is absolutely imperative that carriers, including those in rural areas, have all the data and information they need to ensure their networks are secure. CCA is actively engaged with the Administration, Members of Congress and the FCC on this issue, and I encourage all members to attend one of the meetings.”
“The Chamber looks forward to hosting the 5G Rural Security Engagement Initiative with Competitive Carriers Association,” said U.S. Chamber of Commerce Senior Vice President for Cyber, Intelligence, and Security Policy Christopher D. Roberti. “We also are pleased to partner with other participants from across the federal government and industry leaders, in discussing the security challenges and opportunities related to the deployment of 5G networks, with a particular focus on the impact in rural and small business communities. It is imperative that America and its allies are well-positioned in the global deployment of 5G networks and are able to expand access to the next generation of communications in all areas of the United States. The American business community and our society at large have much to gain through the rapid deployment of secure and reliable 5G networks.”
Registration for the Denver meeting is available here.
