CCA Applauds Bipartisan Introduction of the SPECTRUM NOW Act
Washington, DC – June 6, 2018 – Today, Senators Roger Wicker (R-MS), Brian Schatz (D-HI), and Tom Udall (D-NM) and Representatives Brett Guthrie (R-KY) and Doris Matsui (D-CA) introduced the Supplementing the Pipeline for Efficient Control of The Resources for Users Making New Opportunities for Wireless Act (“SPECTRUM NOW Act”). These companion bills would allow the Spectrum Relocation Fund to be used for research and development and planning costs to reallocate spectrum. Competitive Carriers Association (“CCA”) fully supports dedicating additional resources to ensure spectrum is being utilized as efficiently as possible and that as much spectrum is made available for commercial use as possible.
“I thank Senators Wicker, Schatz, and Udall and Representatives Guthrie and Matsui for their bipartisan leadership on the SPECTRUM NOW Act,” said CCA President & CEO Steven K. Berry. “The AWS-3 spectrum auction proved that providing additional funds for spectrum research is money well spent, and reforms included in the SPECTRUM NOW Act have the potential to produce positive results.”
“The SPECTRUM NOW Act will allow additional funds for spectrum research, including identifying best practices, which will greatly benefit the industry, the economy, and ultimately consumers. I commend Senators Wicker, Schatz, and Udall and Representatives Guthrie and Matsui for their tireless efforts on this issue and enthusiastically support this legislation moving forward.”
