House Energy & Commerce Committee Advances Policies that Will Improve Broadband Data Maps, Efficiently Use Spectrum, and Secure Networks

Washington, DC – November 21, 2019 – Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy & Commerce favorably reported several bipartisan bills out of Committee, including H.R. 4229, the “Broadband Deployment Accuracy and Technological Availability (Broadband DATA) Act,” H.R. 4227, the “Mapping Accuracy Promotes Services (MAPS) Act,” H.R. 4998, the “Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act,” H.R. 4461, the “Network Security Information Sharing Act of 2019,” H.R. 2881, the “Secure 5G and Beyond Act of 2019,” and H.R. 5000, the “Studying How to Harness Airwave Resources Efficiently (SHARE) Act of 2019,” among other legislation.  Competitive Carriers Association (“CCA”) commends Chairman Frank Pallone (D-NJ), Ranking Member Greg Walden (R-OR) and Members of the Committee for advancing the bills, which will help maximize spectrum use and efficiency, improve broadband data maps and secure the nation’s telecommunications networks.

In a statement, CCA President & CEO Steven K. Berry said, “I thank Chairman Pallone, Ranking Member Walden and the entire Committee for their bipartisan work to advance these important bills.  Improving the broadband data maps is absolutely critical to ensuring areas in-need can access the advanced broadband services they need and deserve.  The maps must accurately reflect consumers’ on-the-ground experiences and correctly identify areas eligible for support, including Mobility Fund II, which will help achieve the FCC’s goal of closing the digital divide.”

“CCA members are committed to ensuring their networks are secure, and consumer safety is a priority.  The legislation advanced today will provide all carriers with guidance to securing their networks and resources to replace covered network elements.”

“I thank the Committee for its bipartisan work to move these pieces of legislation forward and urge swift consideration by the full House.”
