CCA Commends the Senate for Passing Legislation to Improve Broadband Coverage Maps and to Address Robocalls

Washington, DC – Competitive Carriers Association (“CCA”) thanks the Senate for advancing legislation that will improve broadband coverage maps and help promote trust in voice communications.
In a statement, CCA President & CEO Steven K. Berry said, “I applaud the Senate for passing S. 1822, the “Broadband DATA Act.” Updating the parameters used to create broadband data maps will help bring critical mobile broadband to unserved and underserved areas, and I commend Congress for its bipartisan work to improve the data collection process to correctly identify areas still in need of coverage. No American should be left behind in the digital world, and more accurate maps will help this goal become a reality. I thank both the Senate and the House of Representatives for their work to each pass legislation to produce more reliable maps, we look forward to continued work to send a bill to the President.”

“I commend the Senate for passing S. 151, the ‘Pallone-Thune Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence Act’ or the ‘Pallone-Thune TRACED Act,’ and urge the President to sign this bipartisan bill into law. Robocalls have been the number one consumer complaint at the FCC, and this legislation takes steps to provide customers with trusted voice communications. I thank Congress for its work to address this issue and for taking steps to implement effective call authentication programs that address this significant consumer complaint.”

Washington, D.C. – Competitive Carriers Association (CCA) members from across the country convened in Washington, D.C. on February 12 for an annual advocacy fly-in event. CCA’s Capitol Hill Day serves as an opportunity for rural, regional, and nationwide wireless and communications industry leaders to unite and advocate for policies that will strengthen competition, promote innovation, and improve connectivity for the benefit of all consumers. CCA was pleased to welcome Vice Chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Congressman John Joyce (R-PA), as keynote speaker. CCA members met directly with lawmakers and key Congressional staff to discuss how Congress can support competitive carriers in the 119 th Congress. CCA members stressed the critical importance of preserving the Universal Service Fund (USF) for expanding and maintaining networks to serve high-cost areas, and for reliable 5G coverage data mapping that accurately reflects consumers’ mobile experiences. Members also urged Congress to prioritize spectrum access in rural America by reinstating the FCC’s auction authority and developing a long-term spectrum strategy including identifying underutilized bands for commercial use and optimizing the efficiency of existing spectrum resources.
