President & CEO Tim Donovan: “It is very disappointing that Congress failed to renew the FCC’s auction authority before last night’s deadline. Since establishing a ‘system of competitive bidding’ for spectrum in 1993, spectrum authority has never been permitted to lapse. Spectrum access plays a vital role in expanding ubiquitous wireless connectivity, ensuring the US leads the world in the development of next generation wireless networks and applications, and closing the digital divide. Congress must reinstate auction authority as quickly as possible and continue work on a long-term solution.”
