CCA and Eight Telecommunications Trade Associations Urge Congress to Support Broadband Grant Tax Treatment Act

January 25, 2024

Washington, D.C. – Today, CCA led a group of eight telecommunications trade associations in a letter to the Senate Finance and House Ways and Means Committees urging inclusion of the bipartisan and bicameral S. 341/H.R. 889 Broadband Grant Tax Treatment Act as part of a broader legislative tax package.

The associations urged Congress to maximize funding for eliminating the digital divide by excluding federal dollars allocated for broadband deployment from taxable income, ensuring that distributed funds would be fully dedicated to deploying broadband to unserved and underserved communities as intended.

An excerpt from the letter can be found below:

“Many challenges exist to closing the digital divide – tax policy should not be one of them. This commonsense solution will make sure that several additional billion dollars of broadband funding will be used for that purpose instead of returning to the government as tax, a massive return on the bill’s $578 million cost.

Adoption of the Broadband Grant Tax Treatment Act will result in further investment in innovation and connectivity as work continues to bridge the digital divide, and we strongly urge Congress to support this solution.”
