Statement by CCA President & CEO Tim Donovan on today’s hearing: “I thank House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Communications and Technology Subcommittee Chair Bob Latta (R-OH) for convening today’s hearing on “Breaking Barriers: Streamlining Permitting to Expedite Broadband Deployment.” Carriers must have certainty as they navigate the permitting process to improve broadband access across the United States and ensure that all Americans have access to fast, reliable wireless connectivity.
“Building on today’s hearing, CCA encourages efforts to advance bipartisan solutions to produce win-win-win policies for federal, state, and local agencies, carriers, and ultimately consumers. Carriers need certainty on processes, timelines, and fees to invest and expand services. Offering incentives and resources to expedite review processes, applying reasonable shot clocks to process applications, addressing Federal lands access, and ensuring and reasonable and predictable application fees will encourage deployment of wireless services, especially in rural and high-cost underserved and unserved areas. Congress can act now to make sure that permitting processes do not delay or altogether prohibit broadband deployment, and maximize resources to help bridge the digital divide.”
