Statement by CCA President & CEO Tim Donovan on EchoStar Corporation and Additional Spectrum Opportunities for Small and Tribal Carriers

Sep 20, 2024

Washington, D.C., – Competitive Carriers Association President and CEO Tim Donovan made the following statement:

“CCA welcomes Echostar’s proposal to expand spectrum leasing opportunities to small and tribal competitive carriers in the United States. 600 MHz, 700 MHz, AWS, and CBRS spectrum are potentially attractive to many rural competitive carriers seeking to expand and upgrade their services.

The prolonged lapse of FCC spectrum auction authority and the lack of a robust spectrum pipeline containing the types of spectrum needed most by rural and tribal carriers to serve their customers is a significant problem. New opportunities to facilitate leasing of such spectrum are a way to help bridge the gap.“
