CCA President & CEO on the Congressional Universal Service Fund Working Group

September 21, 2023

Washington, D.C.  – Competitive Carriers Association President and CEO Tim Donovan made the following statement regarding House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology Chairman Bob Latta (R-OH) and Ranking Member Doris Matsui (D-CA) joining the bipartisan Universal Service Fund Working Group, established earlier this year by Senators Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) and John Thune (R-SD):

“We commend Chairman Latta and Ranking Member Matsui for joining the now bicameral and bipartisan working group to evaluate and propose potential reforms to the Universal Service Fund (USF). With USF issues in focus in Congress, at the FCC, and in the Courts, we are encouraged to see this effort grow with the inclusion of Congressional leaders with proven experience to tackle complex challenges.

A sufficient and predictable USF, as Congress mandated, is key to ensuring that all Americans are connected regardless of income levels or where they live, work, or travel. CCA looks forward to engaging further with the working group to secure the future of USF and advance policies that preserve and expand wireless connectivity in rural and high-cost areas to provide the services all Americans deserve.”
