Today, in letters to leadership of the House Committee on Energy & Commerce and the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, Competitive Carriers Association (“CCA”) urged Congress to extend the FCC’s auction authority, especially as it relates to the upcoming 2.5 GHz auction, to support expanding advanced technologies to unserved and underserved areas.
In a statement, CCA President & CEO Steven K. Berry said, “With the FCC’s general auction authority set to expire in September of this year, it is critical to ensure the success of work already underway remains on track. The upcoming 2.5 GHz spectrum auction is the first auction in many years to feature small geographic license areas tailor-made for broadband deployment in small and rural towns, and any disruption in the auction process could have a detrimental impact on the areas that need broadband services the most.”
“Extending the FCC’s auction authority will support expanding advanced technologies to millions of Americans – a goal that everyone wants to achieve. I thank Congress for its focus on closing the digital divide and look forward to continued work to ensure all Americans have access to robust mobile broadband services.”
